Bongani Kubheka was born in KwaZulu Natal, in a small town called Newcastle where he matriculated from S.T Lewis Betrands high school. In 2010 he got accepted to enrol at the University of Cape Town School of music, training through his voice teacher by the name Patrick Tikolo and professor Kamal Khan who is the opera director. He is also a member of Com Art community choir conducted by Professor Virginia David.
Bongani has since then developed as a young artist through small and big University of Cape Town and Cape Town Opera collaborated productions.
In 2013 he won both the Iran Renner Competition and the Schock Foundation 2013 first prize and performed as Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di siviglia at Arts Cape. Bongani is also a winner of Amazwi Omzansi Competition 2014. Bongani also participated at the Bryn Terfel concert 2014 which took place at Cape Town Opera stage. He also performed Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims as Lord Sydney. In May this year Bongani was part of Houston Grand Opera young artist program (YAVA) where he got coaching’s and master classes with some of great musicians and theatre catalysts. He is currently performed in Postcard from Morocco portraying the role of the Puppet master, which will was staged in November 2014. Bongani Has now graduated from the University of Cape Town with 4 Distinctions, received his Performers Diploma in Opera on the 18th of December 2014.
