Cameron Williams

Musician

Cameron Williams is a clarinettist and saxophonist originally from Pretoria. He has won awards in competitions including the Philip H Moore, Il Vento, National Youth Music, ATKV-Muziq, and UNISA’s South African Music Scholarship competitions, and has received scholarships from the South African Society of Music Teachers, South African Music Rights Organisation and UNISA. He has played as a soloist with orchestras such as the Stellenbosch City Orchestra, Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra, KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the South African National Youth Orchestra, performing concerti by Mozart, Stephenson, Hofmeyr, Von Weber and others. He has had master classes from teachers including Kyle Horch (Royal College of Music); Rob Buckland and Andy Scott (Royal Northern College of Music); Eddy Vanoosthuyse (Brussels Philharmonic); Arno Piters (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra); and Ferdinand Steiner from the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg as part of the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival where he has been a participant for the past four years. He obtained Grade 8 certificates in saxophone, clarinet, theory and piano; the first three with distinction. Cameron is currently in his third year of a Bachelor of Music degree in clarinet performance at the University of Stellenbosch. He is the principal clarinettist of the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and is a member of the University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra and Wind Band. He studies clarinet with Jimmy Reinders and saxophone with Arisa Voges at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre. When he is not busy with music, Cameron enjoys photography, cooking, and is a first-year mathematics tutor at the University of Stellenbosch.

Cameron recently won ATKV- Muziq South Africa’s most important annual instrumental classical music competition.
