Garth Stroebel

Chef

Garth Stroebel, acclaimed South African Chef, trained at Durban’s 5-star Edward Hotel, continued his training at the Mount Nelson Hotel and later worked at various South African hotels including The Carlton and the 5-star President. Amongst other positions Garth is a judge for the World Association of Chefs’ Societies and Co-proprietor of the South African Chef’s Academy which he started with Paul Hartmann. As one of the most hands-on courses in the country, it has turned out such stars as Henrico Grobbelaar (Azure chef, and 2009 winner of the San Pellegrino Young Chef of the Year). Today, many of the country’s top chefs name Garth as their mentor.

Over the years Garth has won many awards including the SA Chefs Association’s Pinnacle Chef for excellence and contribution to culinary standards in South Africa In 2011 he was the winner of the Lannice Snyman Lifetime Achievement Award. Presenting the award, judge Abigail Donnelly said: Garth’s charm and warmth, together with his professional excellence and his efforts in education and raising the standards of the culinary industry, make him so deserving of this legendary award.
Garth travels widely, consulting and helping to set up restaurants all over Africa.
