Shannon (French horn) is a rising star who performed in the Cape Town Concert Series in 2018. His musical journey began at Muizenberg Junior School when the principal suggested that Shannon should learn to play the recorder. He mastered the instrument in three months, so his music teacher encouraged him to pick up an orchestral instrument. They chose the trumpet, as it was an instrument his teacher knew. However, it wasn’t long before he suggested to Shannon’s mother that she should enrol him at the Beau Soleil Music Centre. Once again he changed instruments, this time to the French horn which his teacher said would suit him better in the future.
In 2015 Shannon won the Michael Masote prize at the National Youth Music Competition and in the same year was invited to share the stage with Arno Carstens at the Nederburg Picnic Pops concert.
