The focus of this conversation will be Marilyn’s new book, Between Dreams and Realities, a history of South Africa’s
pre-eminent art museum spanning the years 1871 to 2017. The account embraces many voices, past and present. A key ambition of the book is to reflect historical circumstances and watershed years, and to consider the aspirations and role of civil society in creating and maintaining a national art institution for the common good.
