Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer played an essential role in one of South Africa’s events of the previous century. When
Marjorie, first Curator of the East London Museum, saw an unfamiliar large blue fish she called in her mentor in matters ichthyological. Dr JLB Smith decided it must be a coelacanth, a member of an order of fishes believed to have been extinct for more than sixty million years.
Mike is one of the leading fish biologists in Africa.
