Since 2013 the festival has grown in every way, thanks to the generous and loyal local support and that of a growing number of out-of-town visitors as the news of the festival spreads.
Apart from presenting the festival FynArts has sponsored more than 1 000 tickets for people with socio-economic limitations to attend workshops, demonstrations, and children’s shows as well as performances in Zwelihle and Hawston.
To this end, the FynArts Development Fund was launched in 2015 as a non-profit organisation to support the development of art in the Overstrand. The Fund cannot be used for operational or event expenses, and has almost reached our first target of R10 000.
In 2016 the festival made its first small surplus; an administrative coordinator was employed and an office rented. The challenge now is to ensure sustainable profitability while continuing to grow as a professionally run festival presenting a top quality programme. FynArts is therefore embarking on its next five-year plan.
Arts festivals and arts organisations worldwide – even those receiving state subsidies – rely heavily on donations, grants and contributions for their sustainability and growth. FynArts is no exception.
